Treatment and Risks

Important information about our thyroid medication

Levothyroxine is the only thyroid medicine we can prescribe online. We don't prescribe other classes of thyroid meds. You'll need to see a doctor or nurse practitioner in person if you want one of these other thyroid drugs.

Levothyroxine is generally safe but can cause rare and serious side effects like bone loss and heart arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation) if the dosage you're prescribed is too much for your body. These risks increase if you take other prescription medicines, have a change in weight, or are not taking the medicine as prescribed by your doctor or nurse practitioner. So it's important to let us know if any of these changes occur or you're not taking the levothyroxine exactly as we told you to take it.

Before taking any medicine we prescribe, always read the treatment plan we send you and the package insert that comes with your medicine for a full list of side effects and warnings.
